Commercial Property Energy Performance Certificates.

  • From 6th April 2008 commercial buildings over 10,000m2 require an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate).
  • From 1st July 2008 commercial buildings over 2,500m2 require an EPC.
  • From 1st October 2008 all remaining commercial buildings will require an EPC.

The Commercial Energy Performance (EPC) shows the energy rating of the building. When we work out the energy rating it takes into account average weather conditions, how often the building is used and how the machinery in it is used. The primary output indicates the buildings carbon performance / CO2 emissions.

Display Energy Certificates (DEC) are required on public buildings over 1,000m2 and are renewed annually, so all of the buildings affected must have their certificate by the implementation date.

The legislation will affect owners of property portfolios, property managers and landlords.
